Who is Max Cavelli?
Max Cavelli has been an engineer for most of his adult life. After completing his PhD in electrical engineering, he bounced between many different roles, working in industry as a research engineer, in academia as a postdoctoral researcher and a short stint as a manager. To describe his career as a success would be hard, as he prefers the mundane and believes in avoiding the limelight. After publishing prolifically in electrical engineering, he decided to put his pen to paper in a completely different domain.
His reasons to start writing non-fiction books is varied. To begin with, his experiences are fairly rich despite the fact that his first grey hair have only just begun to show. Having worked in several companies with many different managers and colleagues, his experiences at having dealt with them are definitely a story to tell. His career has had its ups and downs, and retrospecting on them has made him ponder on how things came to be. His beliefs have also been shaped by the many colleagues and friends he has come across over the years.
His adoption of Machiavelli's philosophy has come about gradually over the years. Having read Machiavelli's The Prince numerous times, he is now convinced that the only way to deal with a world that is largely Machiavellian is to fight fire with fire and use Machiavelli's philosophy. Though Machiavelli has been branded as evil, he believes that the dark nature of Machiavelli’s philosophy is merely the unfortunate need to deal with evil.
